A week of catch-up following an inspirational gathering of writer friends staying in a colourful house across the road from Falkland’s history-soaked palace gives me next week’s prompt words: gift scribble stair

Daddy’s Home
ReplyDeleteStrange words were scribbled on the wall at the head of the stairs.
‘His gift was eternal life.’
His wife wouldn’t have written that. She was never that religious. There had been so many false leads since his wife and son went missing. He hoped this wasn’t one of them.
The door to the apartment stood open. He stepped into a gloomy hallway. There came a scuffling from the shadows. A little boy stepped into light. Grotesque and covered in blood.
‘Daddy,’ he said, revealing his fangs. ‘I’m hungry.’
Too late he understood the meaning of the words.
Your clever use of the prompt words has created a wonderfully creepy offering, David.
DeleteWhoa, David! a suspense-filled tale that leads to a marvelous conclusion.

ReplyDelete‘Keep your gift, you sorry excuse for a wizard.’
The prince launched the dirty tome at the sorcerer, who vanished in wisps of smoke.
His bride noticed ornately scribbled marks on the back of the book as it fell into the stairwell. She knew a grimoire when she saw one, ‘If you do not require the gift, husband, could I have it, to use as fuel for the fire in my chamber?’
The prince, eyeing a group of giggling courtesans, snorted, ‘Do what you want. I’ve better things to do.’
The bride lowered her gaze: An escape plan was forming.
And may her escape plan free her from her worthless cad of a husband.
ReplyDeleteHmm... I've posted an entry 3 times; it has yet to appear.
ReplyDeleteI've had that issue before . Can post a comment but not your entry. I noticed that in the top bar where there is a star, an A, an eye shape and a search icon if i unblock the eye icon things sometimes work. Failing that - I've also emailed Sandra so she can post for me. I'm sure its nothing you've done but probably due to do with updates to the blog system itself. hope it gets back to normal for you soon.
