Thank you all, even though it’s forced me to take the
cowardly way out and declare Holly’s ‘We're All Afraid of Something’ and
David’s ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’ joint winners for the visual joy
and intrigue they both brought.

THE WOMAN
ReplyDeleteIt happened the moment she entered the diner. Waves of unbridled elation flashed over me, leaving me stunned. Still, I immediately knew she was the woman I’d forever been searching for.
To call her beautiful elevates the word to a level it doesn’t warrant. Gorgeous? Ravishing? Elegant? Exquisite? Yes, she was those too, but they also fell short of an accurate description.
She dined alone. Not wanting to seek acquaintance here, I waited until she left then followed her to her car. No one else was around, thus injecting her was easy.
Why give her a chance to say no?
I noticed that in the entry above I used "wave" instead of "weave." Therefore, I made a couple of changes and submitted what's below.

She dined alone. Not wanting to introduce myself here, I waited until she left then followed her to her car. No one else was around, thus stabbing the needle into her neck was easy.
Why give her a chance to say no?
and, hurrah!, this time you included 'introduce'. Tight and tidy tale, Jim, as ever.

ReplyDeleteSetting a formal tone, to ensure they took us seriously, Raven briefly introduced us, telling our story; obeying my last-minute warning not to mention my name. Weaving languages, he used a stick to scribe ‘Ravenhenna’ in the desert sand, explaining it translated as ‘woman owned by Raven’; choosing to interpret my flash of annoyance as approval, and in truth I was nothing loath. At least for the time being.
All but one quickly grasped the basics. but I read warning in the eyes of he who failed – well aware that damaged pride all too easily becomes blunt weapon.
the eyes of he who failed just about sums up the whole tangled relalionship right now, and intrigues abound!

ReplyDeleteDespite immediately closing his eyes, Pettinger could not unsee the near-matching images which filled his mind’s eye; a shuffled flashing arc of photos, introducing one by one his brothers’ faces, ageing year by year, spelling out their life-paths from babyhood to bad men. In parallel, Pettinger experienced a re-weaving of his own life-line – so much forgotten, so much going badly wrong.
And striking his heart with a sharp reminder, the knowledge Aleks will have inherited the same rogue Petchinek genes, and it was up to him to provide the nurture to off-set them. And those of his wayward mother.
Once again, Sandra, you have masterfully woven words and phrases together to create a very interesting entry. Well Done!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jim - much appreciated.
Deletethe intrigue just gets more convoluted - I am waiting on the next instalment...
